Chasing the Sun n’ Moon

where to even begin… there has been so much going on lately and I wish I had been able to write about it and share the things I’ve been experiencing as they’ve come. I’m going to give you a quick filler on what has happened in the past few weeks.

I had moved to Edmonton and started to work right away eventually I moved onto another job which was a lot of fun and great learning. I began working at Donorworx/ World Vision which was a super tough job that’s for sure; no one goes to the mall to sponsor a child but we still have to pull them in and excite them and let people know how much help is actually needed in the world… at the very least just educate :).

Edmonton was a great start for me in a means of independence and integrating back into “first world” since Haiti. I’ve been on a continuing path of learning and it’s amazing to say the least. Thanks to my friend Candace I was able to meet some new people pretty much the same day I arrived in town. I’m not one to normally go out but I know it’s a crucial part in discovering new things and finding new adventures. That night I ended up meeting some great people who I’ve since become pretty close with. I was able to meet some great people from Wold Vision and develop some great friends there as well.

My longboarding continues to get better every time I hit the pavement (with the board not my body). One of the best times of the last month was attending Motion Notion just outside of Golden BC, this would also be my first time in BC. The drive to MoNo was about a five-hour drive but the scenery on the way made it feel substantially less… it helped to have great company too! Once we arrived to MoNo we had to find a place to set up, we changed our minds about 3 times and had to run to the entrance at the top of the hill to change the sign we had written for our other friends coming to camp with us.

The spot we found ended up being perfect with the Mountains on one side and nothing but huge green tree’s on the other. At night our site was just the perfect distance that all the music from the stages became ambient music and peaceful to help you relax/sleep.

Most people know I’m all about new experiences and that I usually feel the need to try something to say I’ve done it and also not regret not doing it; there was a nice little river that was glacier fed… I knew it was going to be cold but when I jumped it in was COLD! The jump was totally worth it despite feeling like there was ice-cubes around me, and I had a hard time getting out because of the slippery clay… Totally worth the experience.

Later in the night we finally got all our glow sticks going, and off most of us went to enjoy the festivities. I dilly dawdled a bit trying to put just the right gear together. There were some amazing things going on at night from the hoopers to the Fire shows all the way to the fantastic music playing.

Going to a small festival like MoNo was super neat and I was able to get a new perspective on things compared to Electric Forest which usually brings in around 30,000 people compared to MoNo’s 4-6 thousand. I want to thank all my friends from MoNo and the new people I met, I know our friendships will be that much stronger because of that weekend, you’re all great people! Aaron, Kandi, Lance, Leanne, Heather, Kalan, Arianna… everyone. ^_^

Since I started attending festivals a few years ago they have really been a big part of my life and meeting amazing people and just learning how to go back to living free even if it’s just for a weekend.

I‘ve began reading a book, and I don’t normally read books but just felt I needed one and I happened to stumble across an amazing book called The Alchemist. I’ve had a few friends super excited about me reading this book, at first I really didn’t get it… now I do. This book has been so fitting into my life especially recently. I’ve been moving in the direction life is pushing me <3.

Most recently I have moved out to Vernon, BC which was a nice 8 hour drive from Edmonton… it was such a nice drive though, minus the suburbia part of Calgary, there’s just way to many houses that look the same and have taken up so much of the natural it’s a little sad, but other than that the mountains are sensational!

Because my awesome new friends threw my an amazing going away party I didn’t get to leave for Vernon until the afternoon the next day… that’s okay because I ended up staying with Arianna for the night at the Ranch/ Farm she works at in Coldstream just outside of Vernon. Waking up and getting to meet the horses and walk with them was so exciting… with plenty more to be had!

My new place in Vernon is absolutely unreal, the atmosphere is pretty much perfect for me and my continued evolution of character. The place where I’m staying is a retired hostel converted into renting suites. My suite is actually detached from the house above a storage garage, it’s super cozy.

I’ve been integrating into the mini community here at the Hostel really well… the people are just great. Yesterday we went to the beach just because everyone had the day off, it was really nice to get away and not think about much. I’ve been doing a decent amount of longboarding here in Vernon but it’s a little tough going down some hills because they are pretty steep and I have yet to learn hard breaking.

I want to thank everyone for their patients and my blog writing or lack there of, I actually plan on writing a lot more often now that I have a proper computer set up… which means my book should be done soonish I’m aiming towards the New Year.

Vernon and the Hostel as I’ve decided to start calling it is going to a great opening for me to really find my centre, get back to my meditation, seeking God, and many other enlightening opportunities.

I’ve decided to start making bracelets and maybe expanding into wire wrapping for a hobby other than writing so if anyone have any suggestions for me to practice feel free to let me know!

Long Haul

It’s been a month and a day since my last post… I would like to apologize for such a long time between posts but things have gotten rather crazy and there’s much to update you on.

So the whole Electric Forest thing has been benched, and it has made me extremely sad but it was benched for good reason. For anyone who doesn’t know I actually just moved out to Edmonton, Alberta. I had been looking online for work and wanted to move out West for a while. I had a friend that said I could crash with her until I got back onto my feet which was a huge help! I received an email about a job offer I called them up and had a quick interview over the phone… 4 hours later a call back came and I was hired.

Edmonton1b

It was a Wednesday when I got the call and job offer and I was asked to start on the up coming Monday, and I wasn’t about to turn it down. I was super excited I told my mom… she wasn’t too happy; she was happy but not pleased I would be leaving within days and without preparation. I didn’t mind the lack of prep. it’s who I am I go and journey forward. The drive to Edmonton is a 30 hour drive from Windsor Ontario, I actually went through the U.S. because it’s 12 hours faster.

Here’s where things get interesting I had paid for a show in Detroit that was on the Friday night… that left me with less than 72 hours before I work my new job across the country! For one I got the tickets super cheap $10 for early bird and for 2 really great artist (Bare & Bar9). Getting $10 tickets to see these DJ’s is like getting $10 tickets to see The Doors or Kelly Clarkson. The venue was super small maybe 200 people tops could fit in there. It was such a small venue I had a chat with the 2 DJ’s and got they signatures… on my shoes (I had nothing else). Anyway I went to the show and left around 3AM the next day straight from the show… I was actually wired, the show was phenomenal and I just wanted to keep partying so instead I drove for hours… even made it past Chicago, and let me tell you it was worth it; I saw the most beautiful red sunrise and the city of Chicago glimmer around.

bar9 Bare

I had to drive for as long as possible without taking breaks which I knew would be tough because when I lived in London just driving two hours from Windsor to London was a chore! Surprisingly my stints were averaging around 4-6 hour periods. I ended up only resting for about 2 hours at a time, I just couldn’t stay asleep longer it was way too hot and such a nice day out. A lot of the stops when I started to get really tired or hungry I pulled out my longboard which seemed to energize me huge. During the whole trip I felt a weird mixture of sickness and hunger, it was almost impossible to eat but I was sick because I hadn’t eaten; I knew the only way I could fix the issue was by sleeping… but I just didn’t have time to sleep.

Driving through Wisconsin was probably the hardest part I felt like the road was never-ending. Three to four hours would go by on the road and there was still another 20+ or 15+ or 10+ hours to go… I felt like I was going to be driving for a week. Oh yeah did I mention it was kind of boring for scenery but much more exciting than south of London Ontario. I have to say that Minnesota was on of my favorite parts despite being one of the longest legs, it had such beautiful sites. North Dakota was nice as well but it got really dark because it was around 2 in the morning. I wanted to make it to Saskatchewan (Canada) before I took a rest. Unfortunately I was getting dangerously tired and finally found a rest stop…. it was massive there was even a restaurant attached, I decide to get some more fruit to eat (better than most gas station food right?). Then I forced my self to get some food to fill up on… real food not just gas bar stuff. All the food sounded so good I was so tired and had been driving for close to 18 hours the server probably thought I was high. I got some ham and egg sandwich that was super greasy, I finished it down with some chocolate milk. It was very hard to eat it all but I knew my body needed it. After everything I took another one of my two-hour power naps, the only thing was this time my body didn’t want wake up because it was cold out (around 3 AM) I was actually getting real rest. I got myself back up and headed North to the Great White Canada (not actually snowy where I was going ). I finally hit Saskatchewan got through customs with ease they check my car real quick and we talked about my trip and I was off. It’s a good thing I took a break when I did because there was no service stations for a few hours! Sask. needs to put up more speed signs I saw barely any every 20 or so miles.

Part 2 coming soon! keep following.

Little changes make big results

Count Down Begins

Great news every one I have an official date of departure, it’s going to be November 27th!

I did a lot of searching to find the best deals so that less money would go towards the plane pricing and more would go toward the kids and the amount of time I can stay in Haiti!

Originally American Airlines was the best price but me being persistent I kept searching and found that Spirit was the best price. Although AA offered 1 free checked bag the cost of just the flight was way too high. When looking in to Spirit I had to pay for every bag but it still brought the price cheaper than AA.

At first I was a little discourage because it said I had to pay for the carry on $20! yikes. Good news was you can have a “personal bag” which is free, it just has to fit under you seat. A carry on would be what goes over head 🙂 duh, silly me. For my personal bag I’ll just be bringing my camera for documenting of course, my laptop for movies since I have about an 11 hour lay over! I’m also going to bring maybe a tooth-brush and extra clothes just in case.

I purchased 2 checked bags ahead of time to save some money which was around $60 relatively not bad. One bag or half of it is going to be for my stuff IE: clothes, hygiene stuff. The other Half of the bag and secondary bag will be stuff for the kids/ orphanage supplies.

I’m super excited to leave now that I have a date and it think I’ll be able to get some cool footage and fun footage in the air port… probably from losing my mind waiting for ever for the next flight.

I actually really enjoy flying I’ve been over sea’s a few times. I must say I feel bad for people who have trouble flying, I find it invigorating. I’ve even thought about becoming a flight attendant at one point, who knows maybe I still will for a year or two. Who can turn up cheap flights right?

So enough about the departure, Emily’s mom and I have been looking into making/ creating new merchandise. I was thinking about doing car magnets and Heather (Em’s mom) was thinking about rubber/Silicone bracelets. I went ahead and did a bit of research and made some tester items, I ordered 1 Bracelet and a magnet with 2 different sets of magnet looks.

I’ll keep every one up to date on Facebook and here let me know what you think if you have any suggestions or have any contacts for merchandise just shoot me an email (justinparkinson@hotmail.com).

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

– Matthew 6:26

If God takes care of the birds and flowers, how much more will He take care of you if you will just trust HimInstead of looking at your problemsset your eyes onHim and don’t let the cares of the world drag you down.
