Liquid Sunshine

The past week has been eventful despite not much going on; if that makes any sense to you :P?  If find myself in mini adventures almost daily and tell me self the biggest lie… ‘I will remember this story; no need to write it down‘.

The Hostel-4

My “Tree House”

This town/ city is rather amazing. Vernon is considered a city, I finally found that out but it really does have a town feel because it’s so small and cozy. I usually try to go longboarding everyday that it’s nice out, it keeps me in decent shape and it’s fun too so why not? The other day I kept heading down the hill to see where it would bring me and I have to say I was a little disappointed because the city got more and more industrial… as much as it can anyway. Despite it not being as beautiful as I expected it was still a phenomenal day to go boarding. Apparently if I went past where the sidewalk ended (which I was at) I would have hit the Okanagan Lake… oh well. With all the exploring I’m doing (averaging 8-11 km a day) my wheels are starting to wear out as well as my bearings so if anyone is feeling generous I could use some ABEC11‘s or Orangatang IN HEAT‘s (orange or purple) ^_^.

I started to fall behind on reading my book… that usually happens and then I usually never pick it up again, well guess what I’ve picked it up again and I’m just as excited to read it as before. The Alchemist is definitely a book I would recommend it has amazing words of wisdom and some good reminders on how to be happy in life.

I recently got back in contact with an old friend in-which we had a falling out which was a real shame but I think it needed to happen for both of our lives to expand. It’s so awesome because the beginning of a new-old relationship seems to be forming… ever so slowly which is fine by me, but I really did miss the connection we once had.

The other day I was at the horse farm hanging out with my friend which I was bringing to the airport for the following day at six AM. Before we had some dinner which usually is something super healthy and yummy; but I digress we had to bring in the horse from the pastures in, and the way we did this was with a 4-wheeler (modern-day herding). This was pretty crazy as I wasn’t even driving, I was just kind of along for the ride. First we brought in the beautiful mares (females) followed by the gelding (males) which was a little crazier because the ground was so uneven in their pasture. I was holding on for dear life. while we were bringing in the horses the sun was setting in-between the mountains and what a sight that was stampeding horses, sunset and mountains!

Horses-1

So hard to take a picture we were flying!

I found it super fascinating how the horses didn’t kick or anything like that at the ATV, and no matter what direction we came at them they knew the right way back to their proper fencing. These horses are brilliant and I love hanging out with them, just the way they peer into your eyes and nuzzle you and make you all dirty even though you are wearing dress clothes. Such powerful beings; I love it.

I ended up driving my friend to the airport which was in Kelowna, I figured I was in the town anyway and it took me 45 mins to drive there why not explore… and get some Ingress gaming in… Portals baby!

I’ve been wanting to start painting I’m not sure if it’s because the Hostel has such artistic flows or what but I did manage to scrape together my first ever painting. Keep in mind I don’t usually do “hand art” I usually do well with photography or Photoshop etc… but here it is, I call it “HOW big ARE YOU?”

HbAR LR-5 HbAR LR-1HbAR LR-4 HbAR LR-3 HbAR LR-2

I added a few new things to it today, a star or two and a moon for earth. I’d love to know what other people think of my painting, feel free to comment about it, as well what do you think it’s about?

I’m still on a bit of a job hunt, going from the basic job and slowly finding better ones as I go. I had been talking to one of my Hostel mates/ neighbours from next door that works on a trawler for shrimp on the Okanagan and they just had their new guy quit. Shame for him very good possibility for me! A good word is being put in for me and hopefully I find out before my next blog.

To close off this blog I’ll talk about my beautiful day or some part of it anyway. I had just made a sandwich and Açaí tea (the tea is so good and non caffeinated) I walked out side for fresh air when I was hit by liquid sunshine . What I mean by liquid sunshine is that the sky was super blue and the sun was blaring while little drops of rain drizzled down from the vast sky :). If you’re wondering where I came up with the term “Liquid Sunshine” no it wasn’t my genius contemplation, I learned it while in the military from a Sergeant of mine… feel free to use it!

Finally my last story that I can remember and that happened today, my Hostel neighbour called me over with excitement, and around the corner there were three deer munching on our Grape vines! There were two babies and Mama, we let them snack for a bit then “shoo’ed” them off so they didn’t eat them all. They were all pretty thin which was kind of sad 😦 but they did get to eat a bunch and I hope they LOVED IT!

Not sure if I wrote about this in the last blog but since showering is next to impossible I’ve decided I’m dedicating time each day for “Bath time” it seems corny but it’s an awesome type of meditation and personal time… try it out. Anyway bath time ciao!

Chasing the Sun n’ Moon

where to even begin… there has been so much going on lately and I wish I had been able to write about it and share the things I’ve been experiencing as they’ve come. I’m going to give you a quick filler on what has happened in the past few weeks.

I had moved to Edmonton and started to work right away eventually I moved onto another job which was a lot of fun and great learning. I began working at Donorworx/ World Vision which was a super tough job that’s for sure; no one goes to the mall to sponsor a child but we still have to pull them in and excite them and let people know how much help is actually needed in the world… at the very least just educate :).

Edmonton was a great start for me in a means of independence and integrating back into “first world” since Haiti. I’ve been on a continuing path of learning and it’s amazing to say the least. Thanks to my friend Candace I was able to meet some new people pretty much the same day I arrived in town. I’m not one to normally go out but I know it’s a crucial part in discovering new things and finding new adventures. That night I ended up meeting some great people who I’ve since become pretty close with. I was able to meet some great people from Wold Vision and develop some great friends there as well.

My longboarding continues to get better every time I hit the pavement (with the board not my body). One of the best times of the last month was attending Motion Notion just outside of Golden BC, this would also be my first time in BC. The drive to MoNo was about a five-hour drive but the scenery on the way made it feel substantially less… it helped to have great company too! Once we arrived to MoNo we had to find a place to set up, we changed our minds about 3 times and had to run to the entrance at the top of the hill to change the sign we had written for our other friends coming to camp with us.

The spot we found ended up being perfect with the Mountains on one side and nothing but huge green tree’s on the other. At night our site was just the perfect distance that all the music from the stages became ambient music and peaceful to help you relax/sleep.

Most people know I’m all about new experiences and that I usually feel the need to try something to say I’ve done it and also not regret not doing it; there was a nice little river that was glacier fed… I knew it was going to be cold but when I jumped it in was COLD! The jump was totally worth it despite feeling like there was ice-cubes around me, and I had a hard time getting out because of the slippery clay… Totally worth the experience.

Later in the night we finally got all our glow sticks going, and off most of us went to enjoy the festivities. I dilly dawdled a bit trying to put just the right gear together. There were some amazing things going on at night from the hoopers to the Fire shows all the way to the fantastic music playing.

Going to a small festival like MoNo was super neat and I was able to get a new perspective on things compared to Electric Forest which usually brings in around 30,000 people compared to MoNo’s 4-6 thousand. I want to thank all my friends from MoNo and the new people I met, I know our friendships will be that much stronger because of that weekend, you’re all great people! Aaron, Kandi, Lance, Leanne, Heather, Kalan, Arianna… everyone. ^_^

Since I started attending festivals a few years ago they have really been a big part of my life and meeting amazing people and just learning how to go back to living free even if it’s just for a weekend.

I‘ve began reading a book, and I don’t normally read books but just felt I needed one and I happened to stumble across an amazing book called The Alchemist. I’ve had a few friends super excited about me reading this book, at first I really didn’t get it… now I do. This book has been so fitting into my life especially recently. I’ve been moving in the direction life is pushing me <3.

Most recently I have moved out to Vernon, BC which was a nice 8 hour drive from Edmonton… it was such a nice drive though, minus the suburbia part of Calgary, there’s just way to many houses that look the same and have taken up so much of the natural it’s a little sad, but other than that the mountains are sensational!

Because my awesome new friends threw my an amazing going away party I didn’t get to leave for Vernon until the afternoon the next day… that’s okay because I ended up staying with Arianna for the night at the Ranch/ Farm she works at in Coldstream just outside of Vernon. Waking up and getting to meet the horses and walk with them was so exciting… with plenty more to be had!

My new place in Vernon is absolutely unreal, the atmosphere is pretty much perfect for me and my continued evolution of character. The place where I’m staying is a retired hostel converted into renting suites. My suite is actually detached from the house above a storage garage, it’s super cozy.

I’ve been integrating into the mini community here at the Hostel really well… the people are just great. Yesterday we went to the beach just because everyone had the day off, it was really nice to get away and not think about much. I’ve been doing a decent amount of longboarding here in Vernon but it’s a little tough going down some hills because they are pretty steep and I have yet to learn hard breaking.

I want to thank everyone for their patients and my blog writing or lack there of, I actually plan on writing a lot more often now that I have a proper computer set up… which means my book should be done soonish I’m aiming towards the New Year.

Vernon and the Hostel as I’ve decided to start calling it is going to a great opening for me to really find my centre, get back to my meditation, seeking God, and many other enlightening opportunities.

I’ve decided to start making bracelets and maybe expanding into wire wrapping for a hobby other than writing so if anyone have any suggestions for me to practice feel free to let me know!
